Tognum invests substantial resources in research and development every year. Tognum believes that its products are among the world’s technologically leading engines, energy plants, fuel-injection systems and drive shafts. With MTU, MTU Detroit Diesel (license), Mercedes-Benz, VM Motori (industrial engines, sales license) and L’Orange, Tognum has several brands that have enjoyed a strong reputation for many years.
Maritune demonstrates MTU Friedrichshafen’s expertise as a supplier of complete propulsion systems. This comprises all of the hardware from the control lever to the propeller, as well as the software that controls all of the drivetrain components. Maritune can be supplied with all propulsion systems using MTU Series 2000 and 4000 diesel engines.
High-temperature fuel cells such as the HotModule from CFC Solutions work extremely well with biological fuels. They are now being operated successfully in practical applications with sewage gas and biogas. The use of these gases has two advantages: On the one hand, they are substitutes for fossil energy sources. On the other hand, the methane contained in these gases is burned rather than being released into the atmosphere. These is extremely important to reduce the greenhouse effect, because methane has twenty times as much greenhouse potential as carbon dioxide.
The technology for gas-energy systems is one of Tognum’s future markets. With cogeneration plants, electricity and heat can be produced efficiently and in an environmentally friendly manner. The heat created in the combustion process, which would otherwise be wasted, is collected via heat exchangers and passed on to consumers. Compared with conventional power plants, the high efficiency of cogeneration plants with combustion engines saves up to 40% primary energy, and the carbon-dioxide emissions from MDE’s cogeneration plants are up to 50% lower.
