The completely newly developed Series 1600 rail engine has been designed for the drive system of small shunting locomotives and railcars. The locomotive engine meets the EU Stage III B emission standards that will come into force as from 2012 with exhaust gas recirculation system and particulate filter, the railcar drive system with SCR catalytic converter. The 12-cylinder version will cover a power range from 565 to 690 kilowatts.
