Friedrichshafen, 19 November 2009. More than 100 international rail experts representing vehicle manufacturers, rail operators, authorities and associations are meeting in Friedrichshafen today to attend the third Rail Symposium held by Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen. The aim of the event is to take a joint look into the future of diesel engines for rail vehicles and to provide the rail experts with information on the latest technological developments at MTU.

The day’s agenda includes talks on further development of the current 4000 engine series, the future Series 1600, environmentally-sound drive solutions for railcars and locomotives as well as after-sales and logistics support services aimed at reducing life-cycle costs for rail drive systems - an issue of increasing significance for rail operators. The presentation of the MTU locomotive starter system “CaPoS” (Capacitor Power System) will no doubt also prove to be yet another highlight for the specialist audience.
